NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION THROUGH YOGA: A PLAY THERAPY APPROACH

This course explores the integration of yoga into play therapy to support emotional regulation and strengthen attachment. Topics include the neuroscience of regulation, therapeutic movement, breathwork, mindfulness techniques, and practical applications of yoga-based interventions in the play therapy room. Participants will learn how to enhance connection, co-regulation, and resilience in children through embodied, developmentally appropriate practices.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Describe how Polyvagal Theory informs a trauma-informed approach to play therapy by linking nervous system regulation, emotional regulation, and the use of yoga-based interventions.
  2. Explain how yoga-infused play therapy techniques support co-regulation, enhance a child's felt sense of safety, and promote secure attachment.
  3. Demonstrate trauma-informed, yoga-based interventions that can be incorporated into play therapy to help children regulate their nervous systems and build resilience.
